Niklas Runesson is a self-taught craftsperson, furniture maker, and artist raised in Småland, with a heritage spanning three generations of woodworkers producing turned wooden toy components. Rooted in this legacy, Runesson carries traditional knowledge into a contemporary practice.

Working intuitively and without sketches or models, he creates objects that exist somewhere between sculptural furniture and functional art. Using few components yet moving beyond Scandinavian minimalism, each piece is carefully crafted by hand and brings a living presence to the space—shifting in expression depending on placement and point of view.

Nature, imagination, and fragments of the unknown inform his work. Engaging all senses in the making process, Runesson explores the tactile, visual, and even olfactory qualities of wood. A restrained yet refined craftsmanship runs through every detail, from material and finish to carefully chosen textiles. In his own words, the objects are friendly creatures, balancing the seriousness and playfulness of life.
